Cancer 4

We continue with more alternative cures.

ENZYMATIC THERAPY: Enzyme therapy is generally broken down into two types: food enzymes and Proteolitic enzymes. Several researchers including Dr. John Beard, Dr. Ernst Krebs, Jr., and Dr. Dean Burk found that the cancer cell is coated with a protein lining and that it is this protein lining (or covering) that prevents the body’s normal defenses from getting to the cancer cell. They found that, if you can dissolve the protein lining from around the cancer cell, the body’s normal defenses, the leukocytes (white blood cells), will destroy the cancer cell. Woebenzyme is a product from Germany that appears to do just that. Chapters five and six of the book World Without Cancer describe this process in more detail.

The FDA has approved the Orphan Drug application of Wobe-Mugos as an adjunct therapy for multiple myeloma. Wobe-Mugos is a combination of systemic enzymes, used successfully in Europe in conjunction with chemotherapy since 1977.

DIET AND FOOD THERAPIES: Many centers are using a variety of food therapies to treat cancer. Max Gerson began in the fifties saving lives using a strict diet of fresh vegetables and fruit. Many people have had successes just using a macrobiotic diet, vegetarian diets, and the Budwig diet. Others add products like wheat grass, barley green, and broccoli sprouts to their diet because of special properties they contain. For example, broccoli sprouts (not just broccoli) contains a cancer-fighting agent known as sulforaphane that prompts the body to make an enzyme that prevents tumors from forming.  For more information, go to our list of cancer fighting foods.

Budwig diet/flax seed oil: The Flax seed (Linseed) oil diet was originally proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a German biochemist and expert on fats and oils in 1951. Her simple formula of two tablespoons of flaxseed oil to a quarter cup of low fat cottage cheese  (or other foods containing sulfur) helps increase metabolism, boosts the immune systems, reduces cholesterol levels, and helps inhibit cancer-cell growth.
Hallelujah Acres Diet developed by Dr. George Malkmus is a vegetarian diet that has helped with a variety of diseases, including cancer. For more information, go to their website at http://www.hacres.com/.
Low sugar Diets seem to starve cancer cells. Cancer cells seem to use sugar as their basic "fuel." In addition, a high sugar intake seems to increase factors in the body responsible for creating conditions that encourage cancer to grow - for example, high acidosis, immune system suppression and prosglandin production.
GERSON: The Gerson therapy consists of detoxification and diet. Detoxification involves the use of coffee enemas. The theory behind this is that caffeine is rapidly absorbed through the lower bowel and travels directly to the liver where it stimulates the production of natural immune factors. Care must be taken not to over-stimulate the liver which could eventually lead to its fatigue and malfunction. The diet is similar to the Laetrile diet, but is more strict. It includes twelve or more glasses daily of freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices, a daily vegetable soup, and potassium/iodine supplements. The therapy was developed by Dr. Max Gerson, a graduate of the University of Freiburg Medical School in Germany who fled to the U.S. in 1936 as a refugee of fascism. For  more information, go to our Gerson Institute page.

GLYCOALKALOIDS: These are used mostly for skin cancers.  Lane Labs has done studies using their product "Skin Answer" and has had good results on squamous cell carcinomas. However, melanomas are not treated using this.

GREEN TEA: This is a popular cancer preventative and a favorite of the Asians for centuries. Dr. Fujiki, of Japan's National Cancer Center says "Green tea cannot prevent every cancer, but it's the cheapest and most reliable method for cancer prevention available to the general public." The active ingredient is a chemical compound abbreviated to EGCG, which has strong free-radical-scavenging properties.

HAELAN: Haelan is a promising nutritional-based anti-cancer agent made from liquid soy bean extract. Its array of benefits include blocking cancer-cell blood supplies, enzymatic activity, tumor reduction, and boosting of the immune system. It has also been found to help relieve the side-effects of conventional cancer therapies.

HERBAL EXTRACTS/PLANT PRODUCTS: There are many herbal extracts and concoctions and plant products used to treat cancer. These include:

Artemesia, also known as wormwood is being researched as a safe, non-toxic, and inexpensive alternative for cancer patients.
Italian researchers have found that an extract from the chuchuhuasi tree fights tumors and reduces inflammation. (It is often used for arthritis.) We have not had time to research this product.
Essiac tea is an herbal concoction composed of Burdock, Indian Rhubarb, Sorrel, Slippery Elm and other ingredients. It was developed by a nurse in Canada, Rene Caisse (Essiac is Caisse spelled backward). Caisse gave the formula to a company in Canada who markets the product today. Indian Rhubarb contains benzaldehyde, one of the components of Amygdalin (Laetrile). Many alternative physicians use Essiac to help cleanse the blood, especially if a patient has been on chemotherapy or radiation. Note: Not all formulas being sold today are authentic. To read more about Essiac go to Rene Caisse's story.
Graviola is a product from a tree in the Rain Forests of the Amazon. Producers claim it is stronger at killing colon cancer cells than common chemotherapeutic drugs and that it hunts down and destroys prostate, lung, breast, colon, and pancreatic cancers, while leaving healthy cells alone. It is supposed to help one's immune system as well. Go to http://www.graviola.org for information. We have not heard from anyone that has successfully used this product. If you are aware of anyone that has, be sure to let our webmaster know.
Hoxsey is an herbal concoction composed of poke root, burdock root, barberry root, buckthorn bark, and stillinga root. It is administered in two forms. One is taken orally and the other is a salve (containing blood root) which, if the tumor is on or close to the surface of the skin, is applied topically. The formula was first used in 1924 by Harry M. Hoxsey, a controversial and colorful figure who said he obtained it from his grandfather. The elder Hoxsey was a farmer who observed one of his horses apparently cure itself of cancer by instinctively eating certain plants. Many plants which animals seek when they are ill contain nitrilosides. Amygdalin (Laetrile) is classified as a nitriloside. For more information on Hoxsey, go to our books and videos section or the clinic page.
Pau D'Arco is an extract from the inner bark of a certain South American tree. Lapachol, the active ingredient, can produce strong biological responses against cancer. It is said that the pau d'arco tree yields lapachol and 20 other compounds that may be useful in treating cancer, lupus, diabetes and Hodgkin's Disease.
Radium weed, also known as petty spurge or Euphorbia peplus, may hold the key to treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer. It has been used as a folk treatment for skin conditions for hundreds of years. An Australian company Peplin Biotech has been studying the active compounds in the weed and finding very good results.
Red Clover - Used for centuries. The National Cancer Institute researched the herb and found 4 anti-tumor compounds in red clover.
Saw Palmetto is often used in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Tian Xian (pronounced "Dianne Sean") is a Chinese herbal supplement with ingredients that help control, inhibit and destroy cancer cells. Go to http://www.tianxian.com/english/index.shtml or  http://www.cancer-herbs.com/contact/index.html for information.

Cancer 3

There are a lot of treatments for cancer that many may not know about.

Here are a few.

ACID/ALKALINE BALANCE: This treatment is a combination of  acid-neutralizing minerals like calcium and magnesium to supply proper mineralization and to correct the acid/alkaline balance of the body. Two proponents of this treatment are Carl J. Reich, M.D. and Bob Barefoot. In addition another approach is the use of Potassium, Rubidium and especially Cesium, which are alkaline elements.  When taken, it is believed they alkalinize cancer cells (neutralize their acid nature). Cancer cells do not survive in the higher PH ranges and die off.

ADJUNCTIVE THERAPIES: Adjunctive therapies are used in conjunction with others. Most cancer patients are found to be deficient in selenium, so many doctors add it to their protocol. Therefore, it would be considered an "adjunctive therapy." Other adjunctive therapies would include: detoxification, specific vitamins and supplements like Vitamin C and Co-Q 10, water therapy, and nutrition balancing.

Detoxification, the removal of toxins from the body, is considered by  many clinics as a very important part of their treatment.  A variety of approaches are used, including colon cleansing, fasting, chelation, water therapy, heat therapy, and nutritional, herbal, and homeopathic methods. Max Gerson introduced coffee into the enema procedure, which causes the liver to release stored up toxins into the digestive system to be eliminated. Increasing your water intake may be one of the best ways to get rid of toxins in the body.
Nutritional therapy: Two types or approaches are emerging. One is a specialized combination of nutrients used as a targeted cancer therapy, depending on the individual needs of the patient. The other, which also depends on the needs of the patient, is a more general approach seeking to boost health and strength.
Psychology and Psychotherapy, although used at most clinics, would be considered an adjunctive therapy. Psychological counseling, support groups and even psychotherapy make up a critically important aspect of therapy in the world's most successful cancer treatment centers. Some doctors have reported that a traumatic psychological event in a person's life may trigger the appearance of cancer one to two years later. Music, meditation, relaxation techniques, and stress reduction have proven to significantly enhance the power of the immune system. Some therapists include emotional and even spiritual counseling, not only for the person's regular life, but in dealing with the trauma of cancer. Biofeedback can also be used, where a person visualizes the immune cells of the body attacking the cancer cells.
AMYGDALIN (LAETRILE): When the natural substance called amygdalin is purified and concentrated for use in cancer therapy, it is called Laetrile. Amygdalin is extracted from apricot seeds and prepared in both tablet and injectable form. The injectable is more concentrated and capable of delivering higher doses in a shorter period of time. It is usually recommended at the onset of treatment for patients who are seriously ill. After several weeks or a month, if the patient responds well to treatment, the physician will reduce the dosage and prescribe tablets to replace injections. This therapy is usually used in conjunction with the proteolytic enzymes, a broad-spectrum nutritional program, and a diet calling for fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and the elimination of meat and dairy products for the duration of treatment. For more information go to our Laetrile information page.

ANTINEOPLASTONS: These are amino-acid compounds (called peptides) found in the blood and urine of healthy people but which are deficient in cancer patients. They were discovered in 1967 by Stanislaw Burzynski, M.D., Ph.D., while a graduate student in Poland. When Burzynski came to the United States to practice medicine, he patented a process for manufacturing these substances and began to administer them to cancer patients on the theory that they will cause cancer cells to revert back to normal cells. In spite of fierce opposition by the AMA and FDA, many patients claim that their cancers have been controlled by this treatment.

CAAT - Controlled Amino Acid Treatment is a novel nutritional approach to cancer treatment developed by Angelo P. John at A.P. John Cancer Institute.

CANCELL/CANTRON (ENTELE) and now Protocel: Cancell is a compound developed by James Sheridan around 1935. Although he obtained cure or remission rates from 70 - 80% in mice, the FDA would not allow him to go forward in full-scale testing or production. This product helps lower the overall energy of the body to help starve the cancer. The cancer dies from energy starvation and is cleaned up by the immune system. For the last 40 years he and another man, Ed Sopcak, of Michigan, privately made and gave away the product to  cancer patients – all at their own expense. Today, the Sheridan family endorses Protocel as THE Cancell formula. For more information, call Bob Esh at (866) 962-8880.

ELLAGIC ACID: Ellagic Acid is a newly discovered extract derived from various fruits such as red berries and pomegranates. Tests conducted at the Hollings Cancer Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina show that Ellagic Acid has "proven to be effective in preventing cancer, inhibiting the growth of cancer cells." In addition, Ellagic acid acts as a scavenger to bind cancer-causing chemicals, making them inactive.

ELECTRONIC THERAPIES: Rife, Beck, Clark, and others have used electronic therapies to treat cancer. Many have had successes treating cancer using these devices.

Electrotherapy, also known as electrochemical tumor therapy, Galvanotherapie and electro-cancer treatment (ECT), was developed in Europe by the Swedish professor Björn Nordenström and the Austrian doctor Rudolf Pekar. The therapy employs galvanic electrical stimulation to treat tumors and skin cancers. ECT is used most often as an adjunct with other therapies. Using local anesthesia, the physician inserts a positively-charged platinum, gold or silver needle into the tumor and places negatively-charged needles around the tumor. Voltages of 6 to 15 volts are used, dependent upon tumor size. To enhance the cancer-cell-killing power of ECT, sometimes small amounts of chemotherapy agents are applied to the skin and driven into the tumor by a kind of sweating effect of the electric current ("iontophoresis"). ECT works by influencing the acid/alkaline (pH) levels within the tumor and causing electrolysis of its tissue, which is more susceptible to direct current than normal tissue. The pH change depolarizes cancer cell membranes and causes tumors to be gently destroyed. The ECT process also appears to generate heat shock proteins around the cancer cells, inducing cell-specific immunity. This process triggers Natural Killer cells.

Magnetic Resonance or Bio-resonance: A newer technique based on an older technology. All cells have a natural frequency of resonance and cancer cells differ in frequency from normal cells. Radio waves set to resonate with cancer cell frequencies can destroy them similar to the way a high pitched note breaks a glass. It has  never been adopted by the conventional medical establishment in the United States, but Bio-resonance devices have been in use in Europe for 23 years.

Radiowaves set to resonate with certain frequencies can harm the cancer cells similar to the way in which a tone set to the proper pitch can shatter glass without harming other adjacent substances.

Rife machines were developed by Royal Rife, one of the originators of this bio-technology. These devices transmit specific electronic signals to deactivate or destroy living pathogens, bacteria, and cancers. Rife also developed special electron microscopes. Rife machines have been outlawed by the FDA, but some clinics like American Metabolics use them in treatment. http://www.rife.org for more information. There is also a Rife Forum at Subscribe:  Rife-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Cancer 2

Vitamin C Treatment.

(NaturalNews) The use of IV (intravenous) vitamin C to treat cancer is growing in popularity around the world as positive research continues to accumulate and build a strong case for its effectiveness. The latest cohort study out of Germany is one more example, showing that IV vitamin C markedly improves the quality of life for breast cancer patients. Such positive results are likely the reason why many thousands of patients worldwide elect to be treated with this therapy every year.

IV Vitamin C for Cancer: Current Status

It is now well established that by injecting vitamin C we can safely reach concentrations at which ascorbate generates hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in tissues, and it is the H2O2 that selectively kills cancer cells through oxidative stress. Laboratory studies have confirmed that high-dose vitamin C is cytotoxic to a wide variety of cancer cell lines, and that it also boosts the anti-cancer activity of several common chemotherapy drugs. In animal models (rats), IV vitamin C has been shown to significantly decrease growth rates of liver, ovarian, pancreatic, and glioblastoma tumors with dosages easily achievable in humans. The science behind IV vitamin C as a cancer therapy is now so advanced that there are six clinical trials testing it (alone or with chemo drugs) in human patients against lymphoma and cancers of the colon, breast, uterus, cervix, prostate, pancreas and others.

IV Vitamin C Helps Cancer Patients: Clinical Evidence

Clinical trials have not yet shown IV vitamin C to shrink tumours, but that's no reason for an oncologist to reject this therapy. Improving quality of life is also an important goal of cancer treatment, and clinical experience shows IV vitamin C does exactly that. A prospective study from Korea (2007) showed that this therapy significantly improved quality of life for terminal cancer patients, bringing the global health/quality of life score from 36 to 55 and yielding improvements in physical, emotional, and cognitive functions. Disease symptom severity also decreased across the board, with patients showing significantly less fatigue, nausea/vomiting, pain, and appetite loss.

These results were echoed in a study just completed in late 2011 in Germany, which compared breast cancer patients receiving IV vitamin C and standard therapy together, versus standard therapy alone. Those receiving IV vitamin C experienced a marked reduction (nearly 50%) in unpleasant symptoms and chemo/radiotherapy side effects such as loss of appetite, fatigue, depression, sleep disorders, dizziness and haemorrhagic diathesis.

The Use of IV Vitamin C is More Widespread Than You Think

Experiences such as those above are bringing more patients to try IV vitamin C - as are high profile patients. For example, the celebrated New Zealand physicist Sir Paul Callaghan elected to treat his colon cancer with IV vitamin C, and his CEA level (a colon cancer marker) started to decrease after only six infusions. This therapy is already widespread in New Zealand: 30 clinics provide it, administering about 10,000 vitamin C injections annually. In the US, a recent survey showed that over 8800 patients were treated with IV vitamin C in 2008, using a total of 355,000 dosage vials. But that was just for the health care practitioners taking part in the survey. For the same year, manufacturers reported sales of 855,000 vials of vitamin C. This implies that as many as 21,000 patients received IV vitamin C therapy in 2008.

Ongoing clinical trials using IV vitamin C to treat cancer won't complete until 2013 to 2014. But until then, clinical evidence already shows that this therapy can - at the very least - significantly improve cancer patients' quality of life. Oncologists should therefore strongly consider adding this therapy to their standard clinical practice.

Community

A study was done of 7000 people over a 10 year period on life expectancy.

People who lived their lives alone were 3 times more likely to die of premature death than those who lived their lives in community with others.

This research even studied food that people ate.

It was discovered that the people who ate not so healthy food in community out lived those who ate very healthy food and lived alone.

You could go as far to say it is healthier to eat chocolate cakes with your friends than bean sprouts alone.

We are created for community.

We were never meant to be alone.

To live a healthy fulfilled life must be done with others.

Get close friend that you can trust and spend as much time with them as possible.

Even in the most difficult of situations they can be a support to you.

Imagine being told you have a serious disease yet you were all alone. No one to encourage you. No one to say you can make it. There would be little hope.

But if you had friends on your side helping in every way they could, even if you felt like giving up, they would be there for you telling you it's going to be OK.

Supportive friends can get you through anything.

Be a friend to others.

Live in community,

Live healthy.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Cancer

Being told you have cancer is a scary feeling.

Really this is the most important time to stay positive and happy.

This for obvious reasons is not easy.

In fact it is almost impossible.

But what about hope?

What if there was a way?

Radio Wave Therapy Clinic is a place that does give hope.

Director’s Message

David Bonnin Director of Radiowave Clinic
Dear reader, I feel it is important to understand the driving forces behind the Clinic.
The Radiowave Therapy Clinic is a non-profit organisation committed to funding and partaking in research associated with radiowave therapy.
Both the Clinic founders have had cancer. Whilst mine is more terminal, both of us have benefited from radiowave therapy. Dr John Holt invented radiowave therapy over 30 years ago, so when he closed his practice and retired at the age of 80, there were many of us who were desperate for ongoing radiowave treatment.
Firstly, I would like to dispel two important misconceptions about radiowave therapy. It has been referred to as hyperthermia – it is not – and also as microwave therapy – it is not.
For me the appeal of radiowave therapy is that it is non invasive, has little or no toxicity, is almost completely side effect free and can be repeated.
As there are no other clinics anywhere in the world providing the treatments of Dr Holt, it was obvious that upon Dr Holt’s retirement, a clinic would need to be established from the ground up. This would at least provide continuity for existing patients and provide an option for others in the future.
The commitment was made: to build a Clinic to ensure that persons seeking radiowave therapy would not be denied the opportunity of treatment provided it was on the basis of informed choice and that their state of health permitted.
At this time it was also obvious that without greater research into radiowave therapy, there was little chance of the treatment becoming ‘mainstream’. I have more to say on this further down, given the Clinic focus was only on cancer treatment.
It took two years to establish the Clinic. It is a testament to the efforts and integrity of all those involved, that the Clinic has extremely high standards of patient care, facilities, technologies, procedures and processes, all of which are governed by treatment protocols which have been tried and tested for many years.
The Clinic has its place in providing an option for those with cancer, but it is likely to remain a facility unique to Perth until such time as the Clinic Board can draw upon more certain outcomes.
This brings me back to the need for research. Knowing that Dr Holt provided two forms of radiowave therapy over 30 years, you may have been surprised to read that there has been no long-term research into his treatments, let alone results of such research published in peer reviewed journals.
Now to be clear, Dr Holt has an extensive bibliography and has written comprehensively about his treatments, with case studies and explanations of his concepts, his findings and his results.
Nevertheless, there is a huge difference between the regulated approach to medical research that starts in the laboratory and continues through with published findings from clinical trials, and the approach of a previous era where greater ‘in situ’ experimentation occurred.
I am certain Dr Holt did not have the resources to conduct long term research and at the same time I think he actually just wanted to get on with treating as many people as he could. To a degree, it is understandable that there is scepticism in factions of the medical community about his treatments.
Without the research, Dr Holt’s years of experience and successes count for a lot less than perhaps they should – and while a good deal of patient evidence has been presented in the media and in Government submissions – this has simply been sidelined as anecdotal information.
The compelling need for independent research has at least led to the establishment of the Radiowave Therapy Research Institute which sponsors a number of radiowave therapy research projects. It is expected this will lead to a continuum of published material as research outcomes eventuate into the foreseeable future.
Having said this, I must draw your attention to the fact that it is likely to be some years before the Institute research projects yield the results that many past patients attest to – and which prospective patients seek. This is a treatment without any guarantees.
I live with a terminal cancer diagnosis and so I know how quickly one looks for an alternative like radiowave therapy, which does not have the toxic and debilitating side effects of some other treatments. However, other than its safe history, you must remember that there are no immediate statistics to call upon in terms of cancer responses, and so there can be no prediction of how radiowave therapy might perform in any given circumstance.
I have had several radiowave treatment sessions between 2005 and 2007 and have not yet had to venture to other less attractive options. For my type of cancer, stabilising the disease without invasiveness and side effects is a great outcome.
And so the Clinic treatment may be an option for some. If you have cancer, I know the difficulties and anxieties of the experience. I wish you well. I think belief structure is important, so keep asking questions, be informed and discuss your intentions with your medical advisor before commencing with any treatment.
In closing, it is important to seek information, understand your options and make your own decision about which treatment you should undertake. I chose radiowave therapy because I could still undertake more conventional treatments if my cancer did not respond. This website is presented to help you understand if radiowave therapy is a treatment option for you.
I wish you well and hope you find this site informative.
Sincerely,
David Bonnin

Could this be our future?

They will inherit the earth!!!!!

The following questions were set in recent examinations.
These are genuine answers (from 16 year olds) ... and they WILL breed.

Q. Name the four seasons
A. Salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar

Q. Explain one of the processes by which water can be made safe to drink

Q. How is dew formed
A. The sun shines down on the leaves and makes them perspire.

Q. What causes the tides in the oceans
A. The tides are a fight between the earth and the moon. All water tends to flow towards the moon, because there is no water on the moon, and nature abhors a vacuum. I forget where the sun joins the fight.

Q. What guarantees may a mortgage company insist on
A. If you are buying a house they will insist that you are well endowed.

Q. In a democratic society, how important are elections
A. Very important. Sex can only happen when a male gets an election.

A. When the farmer does it to the bull instead of the cow.

Q. How can you delay milk turning sour
A. Keep it in the cow.                                  (Simple, but brilliant)

Q. How are the main parts of the body categorised (e.g. the abdomen)
A. The body is consisted into 3 parts - the brainium, the borax and the abdominal cavity. The brainium contains the brain, the borax contains the heart and lungs and the abdominal cavity contains the five bowels: A, E, I,O,U.

Q. What is the fibula?
A. A small lie.

Q. What does 'varicose' mean?
A. Nearby.

Q. What is the most common form of birth control
A. Most people prevent contraception by wearing a condominium.            (That would work)

Q. Give the meaning of the term 'Caesarean section'
A. The caesarean section is a district in Rome.

Q. What is a seizure?
A. A Roman Emperor.               (Julius Seizure, I came, I saw, I cried)

Q. What is a terminal illness
A. When you are sick at the airport.           (Irrefutable)

A. Benign is what you will be after you turn eight.   (Brilliant)

We all know it will be OK in the future.

There is no way these people could get into a position of leadership unless it was a government position of course.

But I thought it was good for a laugh.

We all know how important it is to laugh.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Japan Houses

Unique way some Japanese houses are built

Attitude

Can a good attitude change your reality?

Sure, things don't always work out for the best. That's true. Disasters happen. Failures happen. That's reality.

Good days are reality, too. So are success stories. When people defy the odds and do something spectacular in the face of a challenge, that's part of real life. All of those positives are just as real as the negatives.

When you focus on something, it's that much more likely to become part of your reality. When you visualize something, you increase the odds of experiencing it. When you wrap yourself in the blanket of being a "realist" and announcing the glass' half-emptiness, you're setting yourself up to experience more of the negatives and fewer of the world's positives.

In other words, the stuff you've been taught about the power of positive thinking is true. So is its flip side. When you're brain is packed with negativity, you usually find yourself neck-deep in negative things.

You can be a realist while having a very positive outlook on life. That, in turn, will just make everything even better. Don't let the "realists" scare you away from maintaining a positive outlook about what's ahead for you. You do have a say in how your life works out, and much of that influence will start with the way you perceive the world.

Interesting conclusion that we are creative beings as the Bible says we are.

Why not create your reality today?

It's your life.

Own It.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Music

Each person has a different opinion of music.

It does however touch the emotions of everyone.

Light and happy.

Or deep emotional impact.

Why Does Music Make Us Feel?
A new study demonstrates the power of music to alter our emotional perceptions of other people

By Mark Changizi

As a young man I enjoyed listening to a particular series of French instructional programs. I didn’t understand a word, but was nevertheless enthralled. Was it because the sounds of human speech are thrilling? Not really. Speech sounds alone, stripped of their meaning, don’t inspire. We don’t wake up to alarm clocks blaring German speech. We don’t drive to work listening to native spoken Eskimo, and then switch it to the Bushmen Click station during the commercials. Speech sounds don’t give us the chills, and they don’t make us cry – not even French.

But music does emanate from our alarm clocks in the morning, and fill our cars, and give us chills, and make us cry. According to a recent paper by Nidhya Logeswaran and Joydeep Bhattacharya from the University of London, music even affects how we see visual images. In the experiment, 30 subjects were presented with a series of happy or sad musical excerpts. After listening to the snippets, the subjects were shown a photograph of a face. Some people were shown a happy face – the person was smiling - while others were exposed to a sad or neutral facial expression. The participants were then asked to rate the emotional content of the face on a 7-point scale, where 1 mean extremely sad and 7 extremely happy.

The researchers found that music powerfully influenced the emotional ratings of the faces. Happy music made happy faces seem even happier while sad music exaggerated the melancholy of a frown.  A similar effect was also observed with neutral faces. The simple moral is that the emotions of music are “cross-modal,” and can easily spread from sensory system to another. Now I never sit down to my wife’s meals without first putting on a jolly Sousa march.

Although it probably seems obvious that music can evoke emotions, it is to this day not clear why. Why doesn’t music feel like listening to speech sounds, or animal calls, or garbage disposals? Why is music nice to listen to? Why does music get blessed with a multi-billion dollar industry, whereas there is no market for “easy listening” speech sounds?

In an effort to answer, let’s first ask why I was listening to French instructional programs in the first place. The truth is, I wasn’t just listening. I was watching them on public television. What kept my attention was not the meaningless-to-me speech sounds (I was a slow learner), but the young French actress. Her hair, her smile, her mannerisms, her pout… I digress. The show was a pleasure to watch because of the humans it showed, especially the exhibited expressions and behaviors.

The lion share of emotionally evocative stimuli in the lives of our ancestors would have been from the faces and bodies of other people, and if one finds human artifacts that are highly evocative, it is a good hunch that it looks or sounds human in some way.

As evidence that humans are the principal source of emotionality among human artifacts, consider human visual signs. Visual signs, I have argued, have culturally evolved to look like natural objects, and have the kinds of contour combinations found in a three-dimensional world of opaque objects. Three-dimensional world of opaque objects? Nothing particularly human about that, and that’s why most linguistic signs – like the letters and words on this page – are not emotionally evocative to look at.

But visual signs do sometimes have emotional associations. For example, colors are notoriously emotionally evocative, and arguments about what color something should be painted are the source of an alarming number of marital arguments. And “V” stimuli, such as that yield sign on the street, have long been realized (within the human factors literature) to serve as the most evocative geometrical shape for warning symbols. But notice that color and “V” stimuli are plausibly about human expression. In particular, color has recently been argued to be “about” human skin and the exhibited emotions – which is why red grabs our attention, since it's associated with blushing and blood - and “V” stimuli have been suggested to be “about” angry faces (namely, angry eyebrows).

Which brings us back to music and the Logeswaran paper. Music is exquisitely emotionally evocative, which is why a touch of happy music makes even unrelated pictures seem more pleasant. In light of the above, then, we are led to the conclusion that the artifact of music should contain some distinctly human elements.

The question, of course, is what those elements are. One candidate is our expressive speech – perhaps music is just an abstract form of language. However, most of the emotion of language is in the meaning, which is why foreign languages that we don’t understand rarely make us swoon with pleasure or get angry. That’s also why emotional speech from an unfamiliar language isn’t featured on the radio!

But there is a second auditory expressive behavior we humans carry out – our bodily movements themselves. Human movement has been conjectured to underlie music as far back as the Greeks. As a hypothesis this has the advantage that we have auditory systems capable of making sense of the sounds of people moving in our midst – an angry stomper approaching, a delicate lilter passing, and so on. Some of these movements trigger positive emotions – they conjure up images of pleasant activities – while others might be automatically associated with fear or anxiety. (The sound of running makes us wonder what we’re running from.) If music were speech-driven, then it is missing out on the largest part of speech’s expressiveness – the meaning. But if music sounds like human expressive movements, then it sounds like something that, all by itself, is rich in emotional expressiveness, and can be easily interpreted by the auditory system.

Regardless of whether music is emotional intonation from speech or a summary of expressive movements – or something else altogether – the new research by Logeswaran and Bhattacharya adds yet more fuel to the expectation that music has been culturally selected to sound like an emotionally expressive human. While it is not easy for us to see the human ingredients in the modulations of pitch, intensity, tempo and rhythm that make music, perhaps it is obvious to our auditory homunculus.

What is your favorite music and why?

What does it do for you?

Laughter

Why do we laugh and why is it so good for us?

So now how do you feel now?

Amazing how it can change you.

Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert.

With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health.

Laughter is good for your health
Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

Laughter makes you feel good. And the good feeling that you get when you laugh remains with you even after the laughter subsides. Humor helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook through difficult situations, disappointments, and loss.

More than just a respite from sadness and pain, laughter gives you the courage and strength to find new sources of meaning and hope. Even in the most difficult of times, a laugh–or even simply a smile–can go a long way toward making you feel better. And laughter really is contagious—just hearing laughter primes your brain and readies you to smile and join in the fun.

The link between laughter and mental health

Laughter dissolves distressing emotions. You can’t feel anxious, angry, or sad when you’re laughing.
Laughter helps you relax and recharge. It reduces stress and increases energy, enabling you to stay focused and accomplish more.
Humor shifts perspective, allowing you to see situations in a more realistic, less threatening light. A humorous perspective creates psychological distance, which can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.

I hope this has helped you to laugh.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Carrots Eggs or Coffee

When the trials of life come your way, how do you react.

What is the way you respond to trials.

Saw this on Facebook and loved it.

Grandmother Says...
Carrots, Eggs, or Coffee; "Which are you?"

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, "Tell me what do you see?"

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they got soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it.

After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked. "What's the point, grandmother?"

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her granddaughter.

"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?

Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?

Balance

Life must be balanced.

Too much work is not good.

Too much play is not good.

We all need to live a balanced life.

Michael Grab understands Balance.

But what does a balanced life really look like?

Many of us never stop to ask the question.

 From a great Aussie site

10 tips for better work-life balance

In Australia, we have a reputation for being laidback and carefree, but when it comes to hard yakka, our deeply ingrained preference is for a culture of long hours.

But that attitude is slowly changing. Thanks to progressive employers, who are eager to attract and retain skilled employees in the ‘war for talent’, policies and practices that address work-life balance are beginning to make their mark.

So how can you break the stress-cycle and get your life back?

1. Work out what matters
The first rule of balancing work, family and lifestyle commitments is to be realistic about your needs and goals. It's far better to know that you won't be able to manage on a part-time salary before you’ve started discussions with your employer than to realise halfway through.

2. Know your entitlements
The old adage is true: knowledge is power. There’s a large volume of information available on flexible, family-friendly working arrangements, including workplace legislation and policies, so take advantage of it and make sure you know exactly what you're entitled to.

3. Negotiate an agreement
Whether its flexible working arrangements, childcare support, or parental leave, the family-friendly options available to you will depend on your employer. Aim for a win-win outcome by anticipating your manager’s concerns, stating your needs, highlighting business benefits, and keeping your emotions in check.

4. Schedule your time
An easy way to manage your time is by using activity logs, prioritised to-do lists, and action plans. This way, if you feel that there aren’t enough hours in the day, you can take control of your time by monitoring where it goes. Use rewards and deadlines to help you stay on track.

5. Learn to say ‘no’
If you want to buck the trend towards putting in ‘face time’ and incorporate some real balance into your life, then learn to say ‘no’ to unreasonable demands and leave the office on time without feeling guilty. Saying ‘no’ with respect is not only effective, it feels good, too.

6. Ask for help
There’s nothing worse than feeling stressed and overwhelmed because you’re trying to do everything yourself. Fortunately, letting go and learning to delegate will help you work smarter not harder, and can develop your leadership skills, too. Take baby steps by delegating one task at a time to people you can trust.

7. Be web savvy
When creating a better work-life balance, don't neglect the convenience of technology. A growing number of companies now offer their services online, making many time-consuming chores a thing of the past. Banking, paying bills, and grocery shopping can all be done electronically, cutting stress and freeing-up valuable time.

8. Look after your health
Constant exposure to stress can lead to exhaustion and burn out. To keep the effects of stress on your health to a minimum, make sure you get enough sleep, eat healthily, and exercise regularly. Relaxation is also a great stress-buster, so make time for your favourite hobby daily.

9. Focus on end results
To keep yourself motivated, it's important to focus on positive outcomes as much as possible. Action is a natural enemy of procrastination, so consider visualising the extra time you’ll be able to spend with your family to spur you on to reach maximum effectiveness daily.

10. Take time out for you
Resist the temptation to let work spill over into your personal life. Instead, keep your personal life for family time alone, and make sure you create clearly designated boundaries for work and personal tasks. Consider ‘unplugging’ regularly from your laptop, email and mobile phone; the minute you leave the office is ideal.

You know what's right for you.

Why not do it?

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Why are you doing that?

So why is it you do the things you do?

Much of it is programing, usually from parents.

Then from the people you spend most of your time with.

It is time to stop and ask yourself why?

The following is an article by Prem Kamble

When you look at a computer, what you see is the monitor or the computer screen, the keyboard and the box which is called the CPU. Some of us are aware of the circuitry within consisting of the silicon chips and other electronic devices. These physical components of the computer which you can see with your eyes are called the computer hardware. What we do not see and most of us are not even aware of is the software or the computer programs which run inside to give it the real power of this miraculous device. What gives computer its 'life' is the software.

Drawing an analogy with the digital world, human beings too are made up of two basic constituents - hardware and software. Hardware is the physical matter of which our body is built, or our physical being. The software is the bundle of thoughts, emotions, feelings, and complexes. The hardware is more or less the same for everybody, but the software is different for every human being. What is different is the thinking - the thoughts that arise for everyone every moment. The thoughts, feelings and emotions are different and they depend on our background, life history and experiences. Since no two persons can have exactly the same experiences and surroundings in life, no two softwares are ever equal. It means that every man broadly has the same constitution physically, but is mentally different from the other.

The software is dependent on our past history and experience. At the same time, the thoughts that come to our mind are in turn dependent on the software. The software is different because the experiences in everybody's lives are different. Some experiences in our childhood create some fears and complexes in our mind. As the experiences is different and software decides today's thoughts, the thoughts which come to two different persons on the same stimulation or in similar situations are different. For example, if a person has inferiority complex about some particular personal attributes, a remark from another person related to that attribute will immediately give rise to a thought that it was an attack on his person, whereas the same remark may not give rise to the same reaction or thoughts for another person who has no complex. The reactions of the two persons will be different because of the different thoughts. So it is the thoughts which are sparked off at the instant of a provocation or action that make the reactions different. I am sure the cricketing greats like Gavaskar and Tendulkar, while hitting a shot do not think of anything but only concentrate on the ball – and that makes them great players.

I remember an instance narrated by my friend relating to a training program that he had attended. The trainer asked any one such participant to come forward who thought that he or she was incapable of catching the ball. The trainer then threw the ball to the lady who had volunteered and predictably enough, she dropped the ball. The trainer then repeated the experiment with a difference. This time he asked her to watch the spin of the ball as he threw it to her, and to see whether the ball was spinning right or left. Surprisingly, the ball was in her hands as she told him which way the ball was spinning. She could now catch the ball - when she was asked to divert her thoughts and attention to see the direction of spin.

In the first instance when she was asked to catch the ball, the thoughts of her inability to catch the ball filled her mind. When she was thinking 'how will I catch the ball, will I or won't I, what will happen if I drops it?' and so on, she dropped the ball and when she was busy watching the spin of the ball and as a result unable to have such thoughts, she was able to catch the ball.

The next time, when she was busy watching the spin of the ball, the thoughts were different. She was therefore in a different state of mind. And she succeeded in catching the ball.

Every person has the same potential. If one can dissociate the software from the hardware, then all humans are alike. But software is very deeply ingrained into the subconscious, and it is not so easy to change it. (To know more about the Subconscious Mind, read my article "What is Subconscious Mind? How Does it Impact our Behaviour?")

It is not possible to change the software, but one must try to dissociate it with his new thoughts.

Some might argue that individuals are differentiated by their genes and chromosomes. Man's ability might differ slightly by his chromosomes, but he makes himself more different and able by his software.

However hard one tries it is not possible to change the software (i.e., the complexes, emotions). But fortunately there is no need to try and change the software. One does not have to try to change it. All that is required is only to notice what is in the sub conscience, experience it, notice what happens inside oneself and automatically it will disappear. For example, if you are in an unpleasant situation any time of the day, go back home, sit down in a relaxed mood and recreate that unpleasant situation by imagining oneself in that situation. Then observe what happens inside the body, what thoughts come to mind, what feelings and emotions are there, what sensations are there in the body. Experience the unpleasant situation fully and do not try to ward it off. This exercise, quite often, helps bring to surface certain things which are deeply ingrained into the subconscious.

One may say, what is the use of knowing what is in the sub conscience? Often, one is driven by his sub conscience and he does not know why he behaves in that manner. This leads to a considerable amount of mental fatigue. I can share my own experience. I used to sometimes think that I play so many games; I learn a new game so fast but why is it that I do not have mastery in any game? When I did some introspection, I suddenly realised that my idea of "looking good" was to be able to play a lot of games. which meant that I learnt a lot of games because that way I looked good to myself. I always admired someone who appeared to be knowing so many sports. Subconsciously, simply playing the games satisfied my main aim of looking good and there was no need to master it. My subconscious desire was only to be able to play games and never to master it, so I would never really try to be an expert. Hence it is said that we always get what we TRULY desire. The truth is that we always get what we SUBCONSCIOUSLY desire. Quite often, we do not know our subconscious desires. Trying to be what one is not gives a lot of mental fatigue whereas spontaneous actions are never tiring.

Interesting why we act certain ways.

Worth so more thought don't you think?

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Overcoming Fear

Overcoming fear is not so easy if there is no reason for you to push yourself.

Isn't it amazing though when we have a reason big enough?

You know that feeling when you just say I want that more than I am scared of this!

Do you really want to hang on to your fears?

So what are your fears?

Why not list them and start dealing with them today?

It is a lot simpler than you think.

Give it a go.

Let me know how it went.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Emotions and Diseases

HOW BIG IS YOUR SACK OF EMOTIONAL PAIN?

grief ~ anxiety ~ depression ~ sadness ~ self-pity ~ bad luck ~ unfulfilled dreams ~ shame ~ humiliation ~ unhappy relationships ~ betrayal ~ regret ~ loneliness ~ low confidence ~ guilt ~ frustration ~ feeling stuck or held back

A teacher once asked her students to each bring to school a sack of potatoes.  For every painful experience they could recall, and for every person they could not forgive in their life, each student had to choose a potato and then carve into it the name of the incident and the date of the occurance

For an entire month the students were required to carry around their personalized sack of potatoes at all times.   It lay beside their bed at night, sat with them at lunch and on the bus, and while they were with friends

The hassle of lugging around this load soon made it profoundly clear what a weight they were carrying around emotionally.  The people whose names were inscribed on the potatoes were not in the least affected by the heavy burden

It seemed a rather high price to pay to hold onto people, situations and emotions that were of no positive value in their lives.  The students began to see forgiveness and letting go as a gift to themselves, rather than a gift to others

We all carry emotional baggage to varying degrees--painful childhood memories, grief over the loss of a loved one, the devastation of a marriage or relationship break up, the trauma of physical or sexual violation.  Who hasn't suffered rejection, betrayal, hardship, failure, shame, longing, guilt, loss of self-esteem, or sorrow to some degree?

It's easier to believe there is a way around experiencing sorrow, that we can avoid pain and lose nothing of the fullness and joy of living.  What I have come to realize is that it is not pain that hurts us most.  It is resistance to pain that wears us out.  We fear it, fight it, run from it, ignore it or try to bury it

It takes a lot more energy to store pain than it does to confront it.  The tension and effort of bracing shut the doors of our emotional storage vault eventually takes its toll in physical terms

It's no wonder so many people feel tired, listless, and in pain all the time.  Sadly, when you live with low energy long enough, it begins to feel normal and you lose the memory of how to feel great

So many people have forgotten what it feels like to have vitality, energy and enthusiasm, and to look forward to each day.  We're here to help you regain your joy and vitality!

It is time to let go.

Move on so you can be well again.

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Cholesterol

Great piece by Dr. Dwight Lundell

Heart Surgeon Speaks Out On What Really Causes Heart Disease ~Dr. Dwight Lundell

We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled "opinion makers." Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated -- it is quite simply your body's natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.

Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.

While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed with omega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?

Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.

When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator -- inflammation in their arteries.

Let's get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6's are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell -- they must be in the correct balance with omega-3's.

If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.

Today's mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That's a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today's food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.

To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and finally, Alzheimer's disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.

There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.

There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.

One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.

Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the "science" that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.

The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.

What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.

Stay healthy,

Enjoy your Life,

Dave.

Silence

Silence!

Do you know anywhere you can go to just be silent?

Have you ever heard of Nyepi in Bali?

Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every Isaawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar (in 2012, it fell on March 23rd). It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a Government holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New year.[1][2]
Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are: no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.
Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents of Bali observe the day of silence as well, out of respect for their fellow citizens. Even tourists are not exempt; although free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or streets, and the only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles carrying those with life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.
On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni, social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together.
[edit]Rituals

A deserted street at Nyepi
First, The Melasti Ritual is performed 3-4 days beforehand. It is dedicated to Sanghyang Widhi Wasa. The ritual is performed in Pura (Balinese temple) near the sea (Pura Segara) and meant to purify Arca, Pratima, and Pralingga (sacred objects) belonging to several temples, also to acquire sacred water from the sea.
Second, The Bhuta Yajna Ritual is performed in order to vanquish the negative elements and create a balance with God, Mankind, and Nature. The ritual is also meant to appease Batara Kala by Pecaruan offering. Devout Hindu Balinese villages usually make ogoh-ogoh, demonic statues made of bamboo and paper symbolizing negative elements or malevolent spirits. After the ogoh-ogoh have been paraded around the village, the Ngrupuk ritual takes place, which involves burning the ogoh-ogoh.
Third, the Nyepi Rituals are performed as follows:
Amati Geni: No fire or light, including no electricity

Fourth, the Yoga/Brata Ritual starts at 6:00 a.m. and continues to 6:00 p.m. the next day.
Fifth, the Ngembak Agni/Labuh Brata Ritual is performed for all Hindus to forgive each other and to welcome the new days to come.
Sixth and finally, The Dharma Shanti Rituals is performed as the Nyepi Day or "Day of Silence."

But the night before is anything but silent.

I must admit that I have only experienced Nyepi once in my life.
I do however want to be there for it again.

It is wonderful to be in a place where even the airport is closed. Not a light on so the stars are so bright laying in the swimming pool on a tropical Bali night.

It is an amazing time of peace and tranquility.

If you have the chance, experience it for yourself

This year it is march 12 but it does vary in date each year.

Enjoy your Life,
Enjoy your Silence,

Dave.
