I volunteer at my Church on the sound desk.
We have a large music team and a great stage set up. I love what I do and it is a great joy to use all the latest equipment in sound engineering.
As wonderful as volunteering is, you must also take some time for rest.
I have said before I am a passionate drummer, I like music so doing sound is one of my passions. Being there during music practice adjusting each instrument to sound just right. Then the people come in and the service starts and I get to do my thing.
This is more like fun than work for me.
Having said all that, making it clear that what I volunteer for is fun for me still does not give me any reason not to have my rest.
When we rest something on the inside of us changes. There is a boost in our creativity, we get to think more clearly.
Everything about our lives become clearer,
The world looks brighter,
Colors are more vibrant,
Sounds are more beautiful,
We are ALIVE.
One thing I want to make clear here. I am talking to busy people.
If you are the type of person who lies around all day doing nothing then you don't need a rest.
You need to get working and be creative in the first place.
But if you are busy and don't find time to rest then you will loose that creative edge.
There is a big difference between resting well and being lazy.
I have had times when I have been so busy that it is difficult to find time to sleep. So many dead lines to meet and just not enough hours in the day.
This is exactly the time we need to rest, because if we discipline ourselves to rest then we gain control.
We are able to slow things down in our minds to a manageable level.
It works like this.
Your mind is going so fast due to your huge work load, therefore you don't have time to think clearly. It is natural that you will start to make mistakes, this increases your work load putting you more and more behind. Now you are really out of control and only rest can resolve your situation.
With the right kind of disciplined rest you are able to achieve twice as much work in the same time.
I is important for busy people to take this rest or you will destroy your life.
Have some fun along the way.
Enjoy your Life,
Dave.
